Whether you bought your business, started it in a garage with a piece of number 8 wire and a great idea losing sight of why you started it can often cause angst and regret and may even lead to a premature sale when ‘you’ve had enough’.
Just like couples who renew their wedding vows having decided to revisit why they got married in the first place. In business this can be called ‘a dream or goal setting session’ to develop some sort of vision or rekindle the passion and desire that you may not be feeling. I am working with a business that descends from the 19th century and yet still maintains that passion and engagement for staff and customers and the owners alike. Each day is a chance to make anew, to look for small wins and again head towards that often elusive goal. Don’t lose sight of what is important, after all when the business is no more no one wishes they’d spent more time at the office, but if you can enjoy the journey and give yourself small rewards along the way it is a heck of a lot more enjoyable.
If you want to develop a vision or a plan, you can use us to help facilitate this, it is often easier to use an external provider to walk you through what could reinvigorate your business and you as the owner.
Once you know what you want you simply then need to prioritise what is most important first, second, third and so on. Knocking off small goals along the way makes the journey more than the destination.
Finally if there is one thing the owner of this business shared with me that stuck is that he takes 5-10 minutes every day, without fail, to re-read his goals and vision, some days he said he in fact reads it more than once because when the world around you becomes dull there is nothing better than some light to shine on your path.
